How to Bump Fire on an AK-47

The term “bump fire” is used to describe the action of simulating automatic firing of a semi-automatic rifle. This technique involves using the rearward recoil to cause rapid firing while holding the trigger in a specific position. Bump firing can be done on most semi-automatic rifles, including the AR-15 and the AK-47. Note that this technique takes time-intensive practice to master. Bump firing with an AK-47 should only be done on an appropriate shooting range where this technique is allowed.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the magazine. Pull the charging handle to the rear to chamber a round. Put the weapon on “safe.”

    • 2

Make a fist and extend your thumb. This is the same as if you would be giving someone a thumbs-up gesture.

    • 3

Hold the fore-end grip of the AK with your non-dominant hand. Insert your thumb into the trigger guard and point your knuckles directly at your target.

    • 4

Hold the weapon down by your dominant hip. With your thumb still sticking in the trigger guard, ensure that it’s pointed at your waistline. Take the weapon off “safe” and put it on “fire.”

    • 5

Pull forward on the fore-grip and keep your thumb stationary. The forward pulling motion will cause your thumb to activate the trigger. When the weapon recoils, keep holding forward pressure on the fore-grip, and the weapon will keep repeat-firing as it recoils onto your thumb.
