How Do Swimmers Get Water Out of Their Ears?
Instructions
Things You’ll Need:
- Eyedroppers
- Rubbing alcohol
- Tissues
- White vinegar
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Water
- Baby oil or sweet oil
- Cotton balls
- 1
Suck up about one teaspoon of rubbing alcohol into a clean eyedropper. Tilt your head toward the ceiling, and drop the alcohol into your ear. Leave this in your ear for a few moments. Tilt your head back to its natural position, using a tissue under your ear to catch any drips. Rubbing alcohol can help dry the water in the ear. Repeat this for both ears. You can repeat this step if you still feel water in your ears.
- 2
Mix equal parts white vinegar, water and hydrogen peroxide (or just vinegar and hydrogen peroxide) in a clean container. Draw up the solution in a clean eyedropper, tilt the affected ear to the ceiling and drip two or three drops in each ear. Leave the solution in the ear about two or three minutes and then tilt your head to its natural position, using a tissue to catch any drips. Repeat on the opposite ear.
- 3
Return ears to their natural moisture level with baby oil or sweet oil (olive oil). Draw up the oil in a clean eyedropper, tilt the affected ear to the ceiling and put a drop or two of the oil in the ear. Put a cotton ball in the ear to hold it in for about five minutes so it can be absorbed by the soft tissues in the ears. Tilt the head back to its natural position and put a tissue under the ear to catch any drips. Repeat with the other ear.
Tips & Warnings
- Consult a doctor before using any home remedies, especially rubbing alcohol. Rubbing alcohol can cause severe damage if there is a hole in the eardrum.
